Day 11 – We Make It To Salt Lake City

We woke up in our tents for the first time today. The excitement of sleeping in our tents was shared between the 3 of us the night before. I guess the idea of having our own little living quarters where things felt cozy, appealed to us. We wrapped up our things and mounted the bikes and got Marco’s BMW on Patrick’s trailer.

After a quick stop at a gas station to fill up everyone’s gas tanks we hop on 40 west and put Salt Lake City in our eye sights. Once again, simply beautiful the landscapes we got to see and experience. We left Roosevelt at around 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit but the closer we got to Salt Lake the hotter it got. By the time we reached the city is was in the upper 90s. Now, that’s nothing new for us back east where our summers can get pretty hot but the fact that it’s a very dry climate with little to no humidity didn’t help our cause. Riding in this kind of weather you can actually feel the heat and dryness, which makes us thirsty.

My bike was inching past the 200 Fahrenheit marker as we rolled into town and with just a minute or two away from our destination I prayed that my bike could hang in there. As we pull into our motel parking lot I quickly find a place to park and immediately turn off my bike to let it cool down. Riding through the desert is something I’m not looking forward to and hopefully my bike won’t over heat.
We settle in and a friend of Gomes comes by to pick us up and we go out to Red Rock for some food and drinks. We hang out and exchange stories before he drops us back off. Tomorrow we will wait for the Ignition System and hope that any rain that is forecast doesn’t stop us from carrying on and hitting the Bonneville Salt Flats.

  1. Besides the beautiful pictures and videos I’d have to say the best part of your trip is the break downs! Behind schedule? Who gives a *hit! The bike troubles have led you to some pretty amazing people. I for one have been touched and inspired in humanity again because of the guardian angeles you’ve met! Behind schedule? Bullshit!! You guys are right where you’re supposed to be! Godspeed!!! PS! Bruno, as you know we are not the most computer savvy in this house so I hope this message finds you guys. I’ve tried before! Let me know if it makes it to you!
